Today’s forecast was always a little on the marginal side but as I had
not been sailing for a few days I was keen to take a chance. So, after a
morning at home, I made lunch, hitched the trailer then Mag and I headed
over to the River Stour at Bradfield as the wind was from the NW. First to
arrive around one so had plenty of time for lunch with great views with
Finches again in the sun flowers, egrets flying past and a noisy Buzzard
overhead:) The wind cross on from the left with gusts strong enough to foil
so set up my foil board and my Tushingham Lightning 8.5 as Shaun, James,
Keith and Paul arrived to foil! First out on the water and I had to wade to
the yellow bouy to get deep enough water and was soon up and flying but it
soon turned into a flounder about waiting for a gust and very gusty it was
too; I am thinking perhaps a NW is not the best direction here. It was not
helped by the large banks of cloud passing over with showers and rainbows
really messing with the wind. It was hard to think that 5 grown men would
wallow about in the showers waiting for a gust that only lasted a short
while, still at least we got out on the water and it was not too chilly, my
new 5mm boots were mega:) From absolutely loving my Tushingham Lightnings I
now think that are actually holding my foiling back as they are just so
heavy and would love some lighter foil/fin light rotational sails but I am
afraid the poor old pension won’t stretch that far:( As for gybing, still
struggling with the foot change but definitely not helped by the gusty wind
and big sail:( With the tide turned and the wind disappearing it was time
to call it a day and warm up in the van with a cuppa:) No wind tomorrow but
maybe Thursday?
